You are your child's first teacher.

The time you spend together is already preparing your child for kindergarten and success in school. The everyday interactions you enjoy with your children from the time they are born until they enter elementary school all add up to give your child a bright future.

There are many things you can do to help your child thrive. Talk often and ask questions. Listen carefully and expand on what your child says. Read books, sing songs and recite rhymes. Hug, cuddle and praise your child. Run, dance and play. Visit places such as the park, library, ball game, museum or zoo - anywhere your child can experience new things and explore the world. A high quality early childhood educational program can also increase a child's success in school.

Finally, remember that children develop at different rates. This is typical and expected.
